Leading Off

With the BEVys dropping this week, we weren’t planning on releasing a regular episode. But then the Manny Machado trade happened. So now we’re having an irregular episode. Scott is out of town, but Jake chimes in on all things sadness, and gets an outside perspective from Los Angeles on what the Orioles are getting in their five-for-one deal.

Here is what is happening in the world of Orioles Baseball, in 280 characters, or fewer:

Machadios

We knew this was coming. The Orioles are historically bad, and have thus far mismanaged the Manny Machado situation. Instead of signing a generational talent, the Orioles were destined to trade him away – and having waited this long, they were destined to get less than what we would have all hoped. At the beginning of the season, I said that I wasn’t going to be satisfied with however they resolved this situation – if they were going to part with Machado, they missed their opportunity to make it a franchise-changing moment.

So alas, here we are.

There were rumors throughout the day of who would and would not be included in the package coming back for Machado. Here is what the Orioles got:

Jake chats with Clint Pasillas (FRG) of the Blue Heaven podcast, to discuss the pieces coming back from a Los Angeles perspective.

Much will be said about this trade, but what remains is this: Manny Machado being a former Oriole is an absolute bummer. There is no other way to say it.
