Here’s What You Missed…

As I sit in the pressbox waiting for the Rain Delay to end, here is what you missed.

Pitching:  Chris Tillman struggled with fastball command and velocity.  He pitched for 3IP, but threw 58 pitches with only 36 strikes.  Tillman only yielded one hit, but gave up three walks often stretching counts and allowing players to tee of on him.  Tillman’s fastball command has been an issue all year and this start did nothing to change it.

Hitting:  Steve Pearce put the Orioles on top with a grand slam.  The Orioles did a great job with J.A. Happ making solid contact and displaying nice plate discipline throughout the game.   But Pearce gets a gold star for cajones for swinging with the bases loaded on the first pitch after Happ  had thrown five balls in a row.  Here’s that swing:

If Pearce continue to make solid contact with the ball, his batting average is bound to come up and he could be a solid #2 or #6 hitter in this lineup.

I’ll have more on this story as the game continues…(hopefully soon).
