Chris Davis Gets the Cold Shoulder

Chris Davis hit a solo home run in the fifth inning of last night’s ballgame which, at the time, increased the Orioles’ lead to 5-2 over the Texas Rangers. The homer was a towering fly ball that caught just enough of the wind to get out.

Davis has been mired in a serious slump, but you wouldn’t know it by the way he carries himself. Nor in the way his teammates respond. Check out this great exchange at the 45-second mark:

It starts at 45s, where none of Davis’ teammates are there waiting for him at the steps. At 48s, you can tell something is up, because Nick Markakis (seated second from the left, next to a “play it cool” Buck Showalter) sneaks a peak at Davis’ upcoming reaction.

How does Davis respond to the cold shoulder? At the 50s mark, Davis feigns high fives, butt slaps, and hugs to his absent teammates, a huge smile crossing his face after taking his part in the performance. Who can take a joke? This guy.

A few seconds later, the Orioles crowded around the slugger to congratulate him properly. This team is fun to watch, both for what they do on the field, and the types of guys they have in the clubhouse. Even during difficult stretches, when Orioles fans are perched on their social media ledges, you get the impression that the team is keeping each other loose, so that they can shake off a tough loss and get ’em tomorrow.

You have to know Adam Jones was behind this. And you have to know that Chris Davis is already plotting his revenge.
