This Week on the Socials

Orioles top prospect Samuel Basallo went deep for Triple-A Norfolk this afternoon. That's his 14th homer of the year, putting him in a tie for the International League lead. Basallo has played only 41 games for the Tides this season.

The Orioles beat the Tigers, 10-1. It was the first time since Opening Day the Orioles scored 10+ runs (12).

@theyarejett.bsky.social MASN just sent me an email telling me that my access to MASN qualifies for MLB app access to games. The main benefit to me is that the MLB app allows me to use the radio feed for the sound. So I get synced up Charlie and Dave on my TV. I'm in baseball heaven!

Around the Bases

First Base: The Suite Life

The Orioles are moving the MASN pre- and post- game shows (you know, while MASN is still a thing…), and they’re moving the press box, to make room for a demo suite.

We’re not against change, we just wonder… wouldn’t winning be a better sales tool?

The O’s are forever changing the ballpark that forever changed baseball, and not all of the changes are winners.

Second Base: Some Ups with the Downs!

Every town has its ups and downs. For a while there, Birdland (like Nottingham) had far more downs.

But in the last couple of weeks, things gone from “despairing” to “pretty OKish at times.” There was a nice six-game winning streak, and a couple of the regulars returned from the IL.

Things aren’t fixed (which is weird, because they fired Brandon Hyde, so things should be FINE now, thankyouverymuch), but it’s possible that rock bottom is behind us.

Third Base: RISPy Business

How bad is the Orioles’ production with RISP? Bad enough that Jake willingly looked up numbers. And that is saying something.

The Orioles have been bad. And even since (what we hope was) rock bottom, this is still an area where the team is floundering. Where is the magic? What did they do to anger the Luck Dragon?

Home Plate: Wins and Losses Off the Field

In our 14 years on this show, we have tracked the wins off the field as often as we have tracked the on-the-field record. They’re not blowing us away in 2025. Whether it is inflexibility with (what should be) their most valued customers, or the naked cash grabs, there have been things that have not been a good look for the Orioles.

Fathers and Sons

To celebrate Mother’s Day, we get an annual visit from the Baseball Widows. To celebrate Father’s Day, we turn the mics over to Bird’s Eye View: The Next Generation.

Fantasy Boss

Jake wins, it’s 6-2.

Cowser + Holliday = 2 Dongs ||| Urias + O’Hearn = 1 Dong

This week, we’re doubling down on doubling down on dongs.

Jake went with Jordan Westburg and Ramon Laureano.

Scot selected Dylan Carlson (!!) and Gunnar Henderson.

Who will own it?

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
