Episode 103: Orioles Magi

Leading Off

As is customary during the Orioles offseason, we’ve gone two weeks since our last episode. Much to the chagrin of Birdland, the Orioles have done precious little in the interval. Now that the Padres basically own everything else, the organization may want to consider getting their offseason started. The pleasantries begin with the Drink of the Week and the TWotT:

What’s Happening?

The Orioles haven’t quite hit their stride this offseason. Let’s be fair: that doesn’t necessarily mean that they won’t get everything on their wish list (minus Markakis) by the time Spring Training starts. This team doesn’t have a ton of holes, and the needs are meager – they can be satisfied with minor moves, and trades for platoon guys.

The Orioles did hire a new hitting coach. Scott breaks down what he’s accomplished in the league so far, and what that does/doesn’t mean for his tenure in Baltimore.

Jake made the mistake of trying to project the 25-man roster in December with hilarious/terrifying results. They guys break down the roster, with an eye to what could happen if no other moves get made (they will).

Getting into the holiday spirit, the Bird’s Eye View Players present a short story in the style of O’Henry. This will either make you love Christmas or hate the Orioles. One of the two. You’re welcome.

 Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
