Episode 289: Dad Talk

Leading Off

What would have been Opening Day has come and gone. And in the void that baseball has left, we have… anxiously coming to terms with a terrifying reality. If there has ever been a time when we need three hours of escapism, it is now.

Hurry back, baseball. We need you.

This Week on the Twitters

Here’s what’s going on in the world of Orioles Baseball, in 280 characters, or fewer:

Ghost of Opening Day Present

Opening Day came and went, without baseball. The Orioles did us a solid, though, and aired 2014 ALDS Game 2, making a bit of an event out of it. O’s fans flocked to their couches (as if they had anything else to do…), and watched a game they had already seen multiple times.

We wonder what other games we’ll have the opportunity to re-live as a Birdland community, and whether there is room to look back at some of the Dark Times. Would you re-watch the Mothers’ Day Massacre? Would you Watch a double-header that featured the Orioles getting bludgeoned to the tune of 30-3?

We would, but maybe we’re just sick, in a different way.

Dad Talk

In these uncertain times, our love of Matt Taylor from The Roar From 34 is unwavering. Matt joins us to help us understand our feelings, and help explain how his happiness is the reason that our very species is on the brink of disaster.

We talk Orioles FanFiction, our dystopian present, and get into a lot of baseball Dad Talk.

If you’re not reading The Roar From 34, you’re doing Orioles fandom wrong. Also make sure that you’re following Matt @roarfrom34.

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
