Episode 303: A Tale of Two Seasons

Leading Off

Hi. We hope this episode finds you well – in good health and good spirits.

The Orioles had a good week, and the world didn’t devolve into a dystopian horror show, so… we’ll take it!

This Week on the Twitters

Here’s what’s going on in the world of Orioles Baseball, in 280 characters, or fewer:

Around the Bases… Extended Edition

We went Around the Bases, and then jut kept going. What of it? It’s 2020, nothing makes sense!

FIRST BASE: Rosterbation

  • Keegan Akin callup
  • Jorge Lopez claimed off waivers
  • DJ Stewart sent to Bowie
  • Ramon Urias added to the Taxi Squad

SECOND BASE: Miguel, ma belle

Is Miguel Castro… better? Look, we have talked about this in the past, but the man is 6’7″ and can be electric when his mechanics are on – how nice would it be to see him figure it out in 2020?

Also, we’ve seen him pitch 7.1 innings, so maybe we should calm down. But that wouldn’t really be out style, would it?

THIRD BASE: These rules are already dumb.

Why are we resuming games interrupted by rain, in 2020? This is a season in which we are willing to accept seven-inning “major league games.” Why would we bother to preserve the (relatively new) rule about picking up postponed games? Just revert back to the “official game after five innings” rule, and be done with it!

HOME PLATE: A Tale of Two Seasons

The O’s enter Tuesday at .500 (7-7). It’s been a season of ups and downs. We got swept by the Marlins and (mostly) swept the Nationals. How weird is that? And “weird” by 2020 standards says a lot!

Also… are we really talking about the playoffs after just 14 games?

BACK TO THE DUGOUT: Trade Chips

What is the best that the Orioles can hope for? If everything broke the Orioles’ way, would Alex Cobb be the best trade chip they have? Is anyone going to be interested in buying in a 60-game season?

MILLING ABOUT THE CLUBHOUSE: Expectation vs. Reality

How do the 2020 Orioles compare to your expectations coming into this seasons?

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
