Episode 307: What the Actual Heck?

Leading Off

Hi. We hope this episode finds you well – in good health and good spirits.

We missed last week, as the return of at-home education rocked the English and Magness households. As our personal worlds were rocked, so too, were those of Orioles fans.

But we’re back, and better than never. Things are not as rosy as they may have been two weeks ago, but that’s just what we were expecting this season, right?

This Week on the Twitters

Here’s what’s going on in the world of Orioles Baseball, in 280 characters, or fewer:

Around the Bases

FIRST BASE

Orioles fans enjoyed the audacity of hope until the Birds went all Dark Ages in New York. The team had pulled itself within half a game of the playoff hunt, and then… the wheels came off.

We talk about whether we were wrong to hope, and how bummed we should be.

SECOND BASE

What the ACTUAL HECK is going on with DJ Stewart? Look, we’ve said some pretty heinous things about him, and this might still just be a flash in the pan, but man… this is some fun baseball to watch.

Also, what the ACTUAL HECK is going on with Cedric Mullins? Is this stretch of entertaining ball a sign that he has pulled his career out of the absolute rock bottom he experienced in 2019?

Seriously, we love to see it, but what the heck?

THIRD BASE

The Orioles have a lot of young, home-grown talent on display of late. Is the future now? And if not, are we getting a good preview of what the future might look like?

HOME PLATE

Speaking of home-grown talent, let’s just talk about John Means. Is the dude back? Because the dude looks back.

We also discuss Means’ “hard” discussion with manager Brandon Hyde, and how Hyde’s leadership, which had been shown some question marks of late, may have factored in the change.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Who had a great week? Who had a tough week? Who made us ashamed to be Orioles fans? Find out in this week’s GB&U. The guys run through their Good, Bad, and Ugly for the week.

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
