This Week on the Twitters

Around the Bases

First Base: Cracking Down on Cheating

Are you ready for a crime procedural starring Joe West? No? Then baseball teams have got to get more subtle. We discuss the necessity of leveling the playing field versus the storied history of baseball. And one thing becomes clear: Jake is still willing to beat up on Michael Pineda.

Second Base: June is not May

The Orioles have gone 4-1 in June, and the demons of May 2021 are in the process of being exorcised. Hopefully the O’s can keep this up, but this team is clearly not as bad as its May record indicated. The real question is “how sure can we be that this won’t happen again?”

Third Base: Orioles Offensive players are killing it

Ryan Mountcastle was named the AL Player of the Week. Mostly because he was a freaking rock star. After having a rough start to the season, Ryan Mountcastle owned opposing pitching. And we were so. here. for. it.

He wasn’t alone. Cedric Mullins and DJ Stewart also had monster weeks at the plate. And in a season when the Orioles are going to do things like win just five games in a month, we have to hold on to small victories like this.

Home Plate: All Star Update

Cedric Mullins is playing like an All Star. How likely is it that he will get selected to the team? Let’s face it, coaches’ selection is the only way that an Oriole is going to make it.

Also… do we want John Means to make the club?

Fantasy Boss

Scott came roaring back and took this week’s Fantasy Boss competition. In true Bird’s Eye View style, he won the contest 1-0. The category was extra base hits (XBH), and his pick (Anthony Santander) had a single XBH, where’s Jake’s pick, Freddy Galvis, had none. Exciting times…

That brings the competition to 4-3, in Jake’s favor, and Scott picks the category.

This week, the category is RBI.

Jake picked Trey Mancini.

Scott went with Ryan Mountcastle.

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
