This Week on the Twitters

Around the Bases

First Base: The Mid-May Report

You’re just lucky there was no #BrianRobertsWatch stinger for this. We take a look at the state of the Orioles, at about the midway point of their grueling stretch of May games. The Orioles have been holding their own against really excellent opponents. Regardless of how the month goes, there is a lot to be hopeful about for the remainder of the season. If they do well, then it’s time to start clearing your calendar in October.

Second Base: Are we scared of the Yankees, yet?

Reports of the demise of the New York Yankees appear to have been premature. The AL East is simply absurd right now, but the Yankees are rising to be an important part of that discussion. In truth, it doesn’t matter what the Yankees do, as long as the Orioles continue to play good baseball in their push to return to the playoffs, but even at 12-13 games (instead of 19) the Yankees can ruin a good time.

Third Base: Rosterbation

Given a relatively healthy roster, the changes that have come have been because the Orioles are using their 40-man roster to try to win ballgames right. now. This is certainly exciting, but it is also new territory for a fanbase who has watched prospects rise (and one that was so used to putting its hopes in “prospects” and watching them… not rise).

Home Plate: Guess who’s back, back Again?

Anthony Santander has shown life in the field and at the plate. Enough to make us wonder aloud… is he BACK? After putting on a show at the WBC, Santander was not particularly impressive in the early part of the season. Jake’s preseason MVO candidate has certainly picked it up in the last couple of weeks. BEV analysis indicates: he’s back.

Fantasy Boss

Scott Magness is a Fantasy Boss machine. You cannot stop him, you can only hope to contain him. And this week, he would not be contained. His lead now stretches to 5-0.

Scott’s pick (Adam Frazier) was more CLUTCH, at 0.05, than Jake’s pick (Jorge Mateo) at 0.00.

This week, we’ve gone back to dongs. There’s nothing better to break up a streak than dongs.

Scott took Ryan Mountcastle and Jake went with Cedric Mullins.

Who will own it?

Who had a great week? Who had a tough week? Who made us ashamed to be Orioles fans? Find out in this week’s GB&U. The guys run through their Good, Bad, and Ugly for the week.

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
