Episode 367: Seeking Truth

Leading Off

Things are getting harder. The Orioles are not firing on all cylinders, and they are not winning every series they play. But this is what you do when your team is good – you root through the hard times to make the good times all the sweeter.

This Week on the Twitters

Around the Bases

First Base: True Form or Aberration?

You were *this* close to being subjected to another edition of Truth or Truth? Instead, we take a look at a few players and attempt to discern whether we are seeing those players’ true selves, or whether their current performance (or that up to this part of the season) is a mirage.

Second Base: All Star Orioles

Jake did a marvelous job of not whining (again) about Major League Baseball’s crusade to keep the ASG out of Baltimore.

Instead, the discussion centers on which Orioles are likely to attend the All Star Game (via various routes), and regardless of final selection, who deserves to represent the Birds at the Mid-Summer Classic.

Third Base: A quick peek ahead

Tired of hearing us reference that brutal stretch of games over the month of May? Lucky for you, the calendar flipped, and we’re here to tell you about the Orioles opponents (and chances) from now until the All Star Break.

Home Plate: Do we care about the minors?

Jake outs himself as possibly being a bad fan, and Scott is quick to pile on. What does it say about us if we are so taken with the winning ways of the 2023 Orioles that we neglect the minors – which heretofore were our only source of baseball joy?

Fantasy Boss

Scott mistakenly told us that there was only one late-night game this past week, which opened the door for Jake to get bonus dongs after dark to run up his score. Instead, the Orioles were blanked, and Jake sank even further, to 0-7.

This is getting silly. And in that spirit, Scott has selected a silly statistic for this week: R(s)BI.

Jake took Aaron Hicks (yes, really) and Scott went with Austin Hays (well, that makes more sense).

Who will own it?

Who had a great week? Who had a tough week? Who made us ashamed to be Orioles fans? Find out in this week’s GB&U. The guys run through their Good, Bad, and Ugly for the week.

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
