Episode 368: A Sense of Pride

Leading Off

Bird’s Eye View returns after its three-week hiatus. Where have we been, you ask? Well, we’ve had scheduling issues, and we’ve been at the mercy of mother nature. When the power went out during a storm, we realized even the weather was against us. But we’re back, and we’re better than never.

This Week on the Twitters

Around the Bases

First Base: A passionate defense of optimism

We have had the opportunity to be very negative during large portions of this podcast’s run. However, this is not that time. The Orioles are not firing on all cylinders, to be sure. But in that time, they are finding ways to stay close, and keep winning. If you’re not able to win at a .650 rate for the entire season, it doesn’t mean you’re a bunch of bums.

Second Base: As MASN turns…

MASN has to pay out $100M per club, for the period of 2011-2016. So it’s all over but the shouting, right? Right? We discuss what the outcome means to the O’s, what it means to the Nats, and what it means to the Nats means to the O’s.

We also discuss the ridiculous alternate programming problem. MASN has to have better options, and we can think of plenty (not even sarcastic ones) right off the top of our heads.

Third Base: Stuck in the Middle Relief with You

Middle relief has been terrible. Why? And what can the Orioles do about it?

Home Plate: Rosturbation

We discuss Jordan Westburg, and the depth of 40-man roster spots that are currently staffed by players we’d like to keep. Weird, right?

Fantasy Boss

JAKE WON ONE!!!!!! Sort of. If you turn your head and squint, Aaron Hicks had more RBI than Austin Hays. For a very specific period of time. But whatever, he’ll take it. The contest now goes to 7-1.

This week, the category is Total Bases (TB).

Jake took Gunnar Henderson and Scott went with Cedric Mullins.

Who will own it?

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
