Leading Off

As the season winds down, it’s… gonna be over soon. And they’re probably gonna get pummeled in September? Yay?

This Week on the Socials

Framber Valdez said he didn't hit his catcher in the chest with a 93-mph fastball on purpose, and hey maybe not, but you should probably not look have a look on your face afterwards that suggests that you did it on purpose and would do it again when that's the case.

There’s not much reason to keep Sugano in the rotation in September other than deference to his legacy and preserving good relationships in Japan, which, fair.

Around the Bases

First Base: Greetings to Arms

Since Episode 415, we have seen the return of three long-awaited pitchers:

  • Kyle Bradish
  • Albert Suarez
  • Tyler Wells

This leaves us feeling a way. Even when we don’t agree with their utilization, it’s still great to see them back.

Second Base: Pain Measure

Basically, this, but Orioles Baseball. Siiiiiiigh.

Third Base: Fantasy Toss

We start fantasizing about what a rotation could look like in 2026, and discover that one of our imaginations is more capable than the other.

Fear not! There is a an all-former Orioles rotation to be had out there in the 2026 free agent market!

Home Plate: Meaningless Games in September

Here in the 2025 season, the Orioles proved that old adage that you can’t win a pennant in April, but you can certainly lose one. This season has been a wreck from the start. And as such, they’re just going to be going through the motions until they can hit the golf course.

It’s a shame that they performed so poorly in August, because another OK month probably would have helped stave off the cratering of interest in the Orioles that football season in Baltimore will bring.

At least they won’t lose 100 games?

We run through a few of the things still keeping our attention.

Fantasy Boss

Scott takes one!

Despite a near miss with incompetent scoring (oops), we finally discovered that since the recording of Episode 415, Scott’s pick (Dean Kremer) struck out more batters than Jake’s pick (Rico Garcia). The tally was 5-4.

This brings the second half score to 2-1.

This week’s category is DONGS. Scott went with Jeremiah Jackson, and Jake took Ryan Mountcastle.

BUT WAIT, WE HAVE A WILD CARD!

Scott has proposed an end-of-season tally of HRs: Mountcastle against Alex “Action” Jackson. Both players currently sit at 5 home runs.

Scott is going with Jackson, and Jake is left with Mountcastle.

Who will own it?

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
