Episode 419: Tyler, Taylor, Polar Bear, Spy

Leading Off

Something happened! The Orioles spent $155M on a baseball player, and it’s likely that we won’t regret the entirety of the five year deal! More than that, it’s impossible that we’ll still be paying for it 30 years later. Hopes are higher in Birdland… but will the Orioles finish the job?

Mr. Bluesky

All of us in #Birdland need to send good vibes and prayers to our guy John Means, as he announced on his socials that he ruptured his Achilles while training. We love you, John! Keep your head up! 🙏🏻#baltimorebattery #Orioles #LetsGoOs

Around the Bases

First Base: Polar Bear Plunge

We didn’t rush to the mics for an emergency pod when the Orioles signed Pete Alonso, so we have some thoughts. Then the question becomes: what’s next. There’s something next, right? RIGHT?

Second Base: Other Moves

The O’s have made some other moves, including bolstering their bullpen and adding (even more) right handed power. We talk outfield composition, and who is going to help in the bullpen.

Third Base: Available Pitching

The Orioles need to address their starting rotation. They can either go the free agent route, the trade route, or wait for a player to be posted from the international market. What is most likely? Who is most likely? Do we trust that the Orioles will do something?

Home Plate: What do we do with these barricades?

Jake has been manning the barricades, and stocking his pitchforks and torches. He can’t be the only one… how likely are we to be satisfied with the Orioles’ offseason efforts?

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.
