As it turns out, everything is not always terrible in Birdland. As a season of frustration and disappointment draws to a close, Orioles fans can only enjoy the minor victories. Though not technically eliminated from playoff contention, it would take a miracle for the Birds to find themselves in the postseason in October.
Not so for their opponent in last night’s game. The Royals are… well, they’re good.
Which is what made last night’s incredible 10-run 8th inning that much more enjoyable. It was as surprising as it was impressive. The Orioles scored ten runs, on the back of TWO grand slams – both by what could best be described as “supporting cast.”
Maybe this season does have a little magic left in the tank. It could be described as “too little, too late,” but the last couple weeks of the season will be a lot more fun if the Orioles can conjur up a few more wins like this.
