Fan Fest 2019

Orioles Fan Fest is here. And make no mistake: this event is for the Orioles faithful. This is for the nuts. The masochists. The fan(atic)s. 

And you know what? That’s OK.

It’s easy to be cynical about this team (we manage it every episode). 2018 was a gut-wrenching season. Not only was it an embarrassment of 115 losses, but an official end to the Duquette/Showalter Era. A statement that the Spirit of 2012 has officially faded, and that the opportunity to win a World Series is officially behind us.

But for the Faithful, winning is ancillary to enjoying Orioles Baseball. How else do you explain the 6,000-10,000 people who loudly and foolishly cheered their Birds during the Dark Ages? How do you explain people who wake up early on a Saturday morning to don their finest orange and black, and wait in freezing temperatures to get into an event where they can be close to the team they love.

Some people want to fill the world with silly love of the Baltimore Orioles. What’s wrong with that?

I’ll be around most of the day, come look me up. I might update, here, if anything interesting happens. I can’t even imagine what would constitute as a “big announcement” this year.
