Episode 23: Hot Stove Episode – Is this thing on?

Episode 23: Hot Stove Episode - Is this thing on? In this episode, we review the Orioles offseason so far. Pretty quiet. The guys debate the merits of Dan Duquette's dumpster diving, and discuss which trade options are "tin foil hat crazy talk."

So this is the hot stove…is it on?  We cover the Winter Meetings…(seriously this should be a short podcast)

(00:40) Well I guess we signed Nate McClouth.  Low risk move for the Orioles…what’s new?

(02:50) Nate McClouth or Nolan Reimold?  Who is your starting LF?

(04:00) Farewell Bobby Andino…

(06:45) Farewell Joe Mahoney…

(07:00) “Who the Fuck is…” Danny Valenica.  Left Handed DH Specialist according to DD.  Oh dear lord…it’s bizarro Wilson Betemit.

(09:00) Dumpster Diving Dan Duquette…Indy League Pick-ups are our specialty.

Holes in the Field:

(11:30) Second Base:  Brian Roberts…what the hell do we do with him now?  Where does Flaherty and Casilla fit in this triangle?

(22:00) 1B/DH:  Jim Thome coming back?  Tin-Foil Crazy Talk!  Mark Reynolds is gone now.  Chris Davis at 1B?  Really?  Scott throws out more Tin-Foil Crazy Talk Alternates.

DH…Danny Valencia and Wilson Betemeit for Lefty and Righties together…we talk the bastardization of statistics.

(29:20) Starting Pitching:  Are they going to be anywhere close to where they were last year?  And can we survive with the bastardization that was the rotation last season?

(33:20) Scott would like the Orioles to trade for RA Dickey (…a little late now it seems).

(35:30) Scott advocates using Jim Johnson as a trade chip.  Jake dismisses it as Tin-Foil Crazy talk.

(40:30) Bitterness starts to kick in due to inactivity and not spending money.  We talk lack of spending and relunctance to do so.  Are the Orioles right to claim this?

(47:00) We talk about how the Orioles should proceed?  We talk about the 1991 Twins and 2008 Rays.

(51:00) Should we be excited or pessimistic about next season after what has happened thus far?
