This is Our F***ing Phone!

Ortiz leads the Red Sox in douchebaggery.

In case you missed it, David Ortiz lost his freaking mind in last tonight’s game. With his team leading 5-1, Ortiz reacted to a strikeout by destroying the visiting dugout’s bullpen phone, and making a total ass of himself on the field.

Link is here.

Rage

I really hope that the phone is left in that condition for tomorrow’s game. Even more, I would like the Maryland Stadium Authority to disconnect the phone. The Red Sox should have to provide their own. You may think that sounds a little petty, but you’ll have to bear with me as a multi-millionaire destroyed the phone because he was angry that his team wasn’t winning by more than four runs.

Yeah, we’re into petty territory, here. After watching John Lackey whine last night in a LOSS, it was amazing to see Ortiz behave like that when things were going well.

Ridiculous behavior apparently starts at the top, in the Red Sox organization. Manager John Farrell acted like a child during tonight’s proceedings, as well. Arguing whenever possible over balls and strikes, he took things a step further when he asked the umpires to review a play that had already been ruled a Red Sox home run.

Seriously.

Steven Drew hit a ball off the top of the groundskeeping shed, which ricochetted and bounced enough for the Orioles to botch a relay into the infield. Drew ended up scoring on the play, and it was ruled a two-run, inside-the-park home run.

Farrell came out to argue, not realizing that the official scorer had already credited Drew with a HR. He argued until the umpires reviewed the play (eventually ruling that the ball had left the yard). The result did not change a thing on the field. All it could have done was change a single stat for an individual player.

I wonder what kind of side show the Red Sox will put on tomorrow…
