Episode 349: Beers in The Hague

Leading Off

Don’t look now, but the Orioles are tantalizingly close to playing meaningful games in September! Scott is out of town this week, and so Jake is joined by Alan Smith of the Baltimorons podcast for a jaunt through the week that was in Orioles Baseball.

This Week on the Twitters

Around the Bases

We go Around the Bases to review this week in Orioles Baseball:

First Base: The 2023 Schedule

Jake may have done some emoting on the internet, and offers a mostly half-hearted mea culpa. Also the schedule has some other unique quirks in store for us, next season.

Second Base: The Little League Classic

There is no better expression of the love of the game, than that of a child. Unless you count Adley Rutschman, sliding down a hill with those kids. In which case, THAT is the most perfect expression of the love of the game.

The Orioles played their first prime time game in five years, and somehow avoided messing the bed on a national stage.

Third Base: Why Not? vs. Never Say Die

Many fans have likened this year’s team to the 2012 Buckle Up Birds, however, the true comparison is really the 1989 squad. We’re not sure if we’re more uncomfortable with the fact that the Why Not? Orioles failed to make the playoffs, or that the connective tissue appears to be Dave Johnson.

Home Plate: Felix Bautista

Good? Great? Infallible? What do we make of The Mountain? How long can his dominance last? We don’t know, but it won’t stop us from talking about it.

Fantasy Boss

Things got weird. A week removed from last week’s Fantasy Boss drama, Alan Smith turns out to be the type of man who just likes to watch the world burn.

Jake tried valiantly to return Fantasy Boss to an above-board enterprise, selecting the DONG. Alan threw a wrench in the proceedings by selecting Gunnar Henderson. Jake gave him Henderson, Stowers, and Rutschman, in an attempt to be a decent person.

Jake went with Ramon Urias.

Will Scott accept these terms? And if so…

Who will own it?

Blowing the Save

Most podcasts try to end on a high note – the perfect coda to a quality program. That’s just not our style. Each week, we’ll end on a weak note, blowing the save with an item that didn’t quite fit into the episode, or something they simply need to get off their chests. It’s our version of taking the ball and pulling a Kevin Gregg.

I tuned in to hear knuckleheads talk about baseball. Instead I get Knuckleheads talk politics. Delete and unfollow.
